Getting Around In The British Virgin Islands

BVI Road Sign

BVI Road Sign

So you have discovered the British Virgin Islands and are ready to explore!

Getting to the BVI is just the beginning of your adventure as there are no direct flights. All flights "hub" through San Juan, Puerto Rico, St Thomas, St Maarten, Antigua, and many other down islands. The rebuilding of the Terrence B Lettsome Airport on Beef Island is now complete, allowing for the use of larger air carriers. Keep in mind that when leaving the British Virgin Islands, there is a $20.00 air tax charge.

There is also a ferry service that shuttles 7 days a week between the US Virgin Islands - St. Thomas and St. John, to the British Virgin Islands - Tortola and Virgin Gorda. There is a $5.00 sea departure tax ($7.00 for cruise ship passengers).

Now that you're here, getting around the BVI is so much more fun than how you arrived. There are plenty of car and jeep rentals available or take a ride with one of our local taxi drivers and get some inside knowledge of the islands. Or tool around the island on a motorcyle or scooter. To get in between the islands let the sailor come out in you as the only transportation is via the water taxi or ferry.

Whether by land, air or sea, explore and see what "Nature's Little Secrets" are all about!
