Sailing Regattas are popular in the BVI.
Sailboat racing in the BVI takes place year-round in the clear blue waters, with steady trade winds. The Royal British Virgin Islands Yacht Club, whose major event is held every year - the Spring Regatta - brings competitors from around the world with classes ranging from the beach cats to Maxi's.
The Loyal West End Yacht Club sponsors many regattas through the year, with most of the races being in the fun category, with prizes for all that attend.
In Virgin Gorda, the Bitter End Yacht Club has many mixed regattas, with a pro-am series bringing in Americas Cup and Around the World sailors to compete.
A new one design class emerged in the BVI, the revamped J 24, now called IC 24, which is highly competitive. The British Virgin Islands are the sailing capital of the Caribbean and racing is on a top level.
