British Virgin Islands
Abstract painter Stephanie Hoff Clayton was born in 1965 in Birmingham, Alabama. At the age of three, she began drawing fervently. She was insightful about color in particular, and had firm ideas about how to use it. Always desiring to be an artist, Stephanie’s career and educational goals led her on a different but brief path, until she sought formal art training, completing her studies at Tulane University.
After graduation, Stephanie opened a studio where she taught art to children and adults, before a flood forced her to close the studio. In 1998, Stephanie moved with her husband to the British Virgin Islands and spent several years sailing and exploring the Caribbean. Since 2003, she has been teaching art at Cedar School, providing instruction to all grade levels. Stephanie is a major presence in the BVI’s artistic community. Additionally, she is an emerging talent in Miami’s vibrant art scene.
Stephanie Clayton has been the recipient of many awards and distinctions. Her work is part of several national and international collections, and has been the subject of numerous periodicals.
