Caribbean Undersea Adventures in the British Virgin Islands
Caribbean Undersea Adventures (CUA) is a new company registered and operating out of the beautiful British Virgin Islands within the underwater tour industry. CUA is the brainchild of Andy Cowan and Chris Charlton two ROV professional's who worked around the world on commercial ROV projects in the oil industry. Having looked at other underwater tour companies they decided to use Remote Operated Vehicles as a new and unique way for people to explore the underwater environment. In the past to explore underwater people had to be certified scuba divers or travel in a tourist submarines or take tours on a glass bottom boat. After looking at these options the directors of CUA decided that using the same technology that helped explore the Titanic and has been used in the oil industry was the future of underwater tourism. By using a state-of-the-art commercial ROV onboard a custom built wave piercing catamaran passengers can now enjoy a diver eye view of the underwater world without carrying out diver training, or without the height restrictions in place on tourist submarines or the limitations of glass bottom boat tours. Now anybody regardless of age, ability or inclination who can travel on a boat can enjoy discovering the beauty of the underwater world. The ROV can dive to 300m, is equipped with powerful sonar, high definition zoom camera and 225 watts of lighting. The ROV Pilots have internationally recognised ROV qualifications and many years experience flying these vehicles. The vessel is a custom built wave piercing catamaran designed for increased stability both during transits and on location. It complies with all safety legislation for the BVI and is equipped with a marine head and air-conditioning for increased passenger comfort. The vessel can take up-to 24 passengers. All crew have carried out STCW 95 training and the vessel master is a qualified Caribbean Boat Master. Full comprehensive insurance is also provided. Observe the underwater action with Caribbean Undersea Adventures in the British Virgin Islands Tours start and end at Nanny Cay and transits take between 20-30 minutes depending on the dive site. During transits, a full narration is provided with a presentation on the capability of the ROV and facts on fish and coral.
Once on site the ROV is deployed and will carry out a dive on the selected site for around 45 minutes. Passengers observe the underwater action on a 50’ plasma monitor located at the front of the passenger cabin. Again, the ROV Co-Pilot provides a running narration on the history of the site, and the marine life observed. The dive sites are all located on the South side of Tortola and can include the world famous wreck of the Rhone, the Fearless, and Wreck Ally, the Inganess Bay, the Caves, the Indians and Spyglass wall. Other services include corporate day sails, children's parties, educational 'living classroom' field study trips and services to the commercial sector. This can include full video general visual inspections, Sonar Surveys, salvage/Insurance inspections and tooling operations for specific projects. With full QA/QC and report writing undertaken. Caribbean Undersea Adventures ROV shows off beautiful coral in the British Virgin Islands This venture is unique in the Caribbean region and will appeal to a wide range of people from locals wanting to explore beneath the waters of their home, children too small to take on a submarine or those wanting to explore the beauty of the undersea world without the required diving qualifications. Since becoming operational CUA has assisted with the Bristol University field school in their search for HMS Nymph in Road Harbour, carried out a salvage inspection on the Island Seal on behalf of CMS Ltd and assisted in educational trips for both the HLSCC biology students and the Dept. Conservation and Fisheries summer programme. For further information visit www.cua-bvi.com or contact Andy at 284.443.7336 | email andy@cua-bvi.com. |
